Before becoming a teacher, Tom enjoyed a long and varied career. Firstly in the chemical industry where he worked as chief chemist and often dealt with the manufacturing, purchasing and sales of the products. Tom then re-trained and became an analyst for a large bank. Tom was involved in IT and data modelling. He also dealt with the workshops, presentations and interviews of the banking business people.

Tom lives with his wife Roz, who is also a teacher, and their cat.
Tom’s hobbies and interests include languages – principally Spanish and French, cooking, gardening, reading and visiting National Trust houses and gardens. Tom and his wife also like to travel and often holiday in France.

About the teacher’s accommodation

Tom lives with his wife in a very comfortable Detached Victorian Cottage in a village near Horsham. The cottage itself has a very interesting history. It also has a pleasant garden. The student room in their home is nicely furnished.

About the local area

The village has shops and several cafés and other places to eat including Indian, Chinese and Italian restaurants. There are direct train services to London Victoria which take approximately 70 minutes.

Wine Tasting – A half day excursion to a local vineyard with award winning wines. The trip includes a tour of the vines at the foot of the south downs in beautiful countryside followed by a wine tasting experience in a windmill.

St Botolph”s Church – A visit to an historic church with rare eleventh century wall paintings depicting biblical stories.

Bignor Roman Villa – A visit to the well preserved remains of a roman villa featuring a number of wonderful mosaics, some of which are housed in listed Georgian farmhouse buildings. The remains of the bath house are also on site.

A whole day in Chichester – A visit to the historic city of Chichester featuring the cathedral with its interesting artefacts and beautiful gardens. There will be time for shopping and a visit to the new museum and/or an art gallery.

Farmers’ Market – A visit to a farmers’ market in an historic village or market town and/or a visit to farm shops where all produce and crafts are local.
