Susan N

Welcome and congratulations on wishing to improve your English! We are a cheerful, friendly family who enjoy being busy. We can offer you a range of exciting and cultural activities such as sailing, canoeing and trips to the countryside as the New Forest is on our doorstep. As a teacher I can help you from the basics of letter sounds and sentence construction to being able to converse freely and write with confidence. Although this is demanding I can promise to make it a pleasurable process with plenty of fun. We have 2 gardens, both with plenty of space for relaxing. For younger people there is a large trampoline, plenty of trees to climb, a treehouse, 2 storey playhouse, swings, rope ladder, slide and exercise bar!

Family information

I live with my partner, Neil, who is also a teacher – of Drama and Theatre Studies – and my daughter aged 14. Neil is dedicated to his work but also enjoys dinghy sailing, canoeing, playing the guitar and the arts. My daughter is a talented gymnast who is part of Southampton’s Tumbling Squad. We are very proud of her. At school she is interested in dance, photography and art. At home she spends much time on the trampoline, piano and of course her mobile phone and iPad! She has 2 cats and 2 house bunnies all from the rescue centre. Like my family I am also interested in music and sailing. We are all members of an orchestra in which I play the double bass. My daughter loves driving our RIB which we keep in the harbour on the Isle of Wight, a beautiful island just a ferry journey away. I love being outside whether it is skiing, mountain walking or gardening. We have a beehive in our courtyard. You could put a beesuit on and have a look inside. We all enjoy travel and reading. We have 100s of books.

About the teacher’s accommodation

Our lovely home has 4 bedrooms, a lounge, open space, family room comprising the kitchen, dining area and cosy seats by the fire. We have 2 wood burners and are always looking for an excuse to light them. There is also a conservatory and 2 garden spaces – a courtyard and a main back garden. There are 2 student rooms: one is the largest in the house. It has a double bed, dressing table, desk and floor to ceiling wardrobe, also a large television. It has a private bathroom with a bath, sink and toilet. The other has a double bed, large set of drawers and an en-suite with shower, sink and toilet. With dual aspect windows it faces both gardens where you hear a lot of birdsinging.

About the local area

Southampton is a big city. We have lots of cinemas, theatres, sport centres, shops and restaurants. I especially like our large parks. There are 3 in the centre but also 2 close to our house. The nearest has a café and recently had £1.3m spent on new magnificent play equipment for ALL ages! There are many small villages nearby and historic properties as well as some amazing cliff top walks in Dorset, our neighbouring county.
