Susan B

Hello – my name is Sue and I look forward to welcoming you to my home in the English countryside. I live with my husband and a very friendly dog in a beautiful cottage, where you can relax and learn English. Many people have enjoyed staying in our home and learning/developing their English language skills. My husband is a chef, so you will enjoy a good selection of English cooking and there are many interesting places to visit close by.  London is 1 hour by train and the beach is 30 minutes away. We are situated 15 minutes from Gatwick Airport and are surrounded by beautiful countryside with a large town only 10 minutes away. Your English language learning experience will be tailored to your specific requirements within a warm and friendly environment; I look forward to meeting you.

 Family information

I live with my husband and Alfie the dog, who is a beautiful Golden Retriever aged 10 years old and is very friendly. My husband and I are in our 50’s and love travelling the world. We have a home in France which we visit in the Spring and Autumn and my husband is a brilliant cook, experimenting with recipes worldwide. We enjoy walking with our dog and taking trips to London to visit exhibitions and museums. We have two daughters who are in their 20’s and live in their own homes in London and in the countryside nearby; they are very friendly and enjoy meeting any new guests we are hosting. My husband, Roger, is very keen to share his cooking experiences and would welcome any help and advice if that would be of interest to you. He also plays the guitar and has several musical instruments and keyboards which he is happy to share.

About the teacher’s accommodation

Our home is a large traditional English country cottage with lots of character. It has a large garden for outdoor games, activities and barbeques. We are surrounded by fields, but are within a short distance to our local town Horsham. We have two double bedrooms available for guests, overlooking our garden, with a shared bathroom.

About the local area

We live in a market town called Horsham, which has many facilities including, bowling, swimming, athletics, sports hall and outdoor grounds. There is a good selection of shops and cafes/restaurants. We have horse riding facilities very close to our house. We are within easy reach of both London (1 hour by direct train) and the beach. Brighton is a very interesting coastal town to visit (30 mins) with excellent shops/cafes and entertainment. Guildford is approximately 45 mins away with cinemas, theatres and a multiplex sports complex with ice-rink. Horsham has a museum and arts centre, incorporating its own cinema. There will never be a shortage of facilities to accommodate you.
