About
Stuart R

I am an English language teacher. For me, home stay learning is a very effective way to advance your language skills, as you learn in lesson time and just by staying in your teacher’s home and joining in with the life of the household. Before I became a home stay teacher, I worked as an economist and management consultant for an an international consulting company working with international agencies, banks and governments and for the European Commission. I have particular knowledge of the metals, engineering, construction and ICT industries. I speak Spanish, Italian, French and some basic German and Russian. During my career I worked in South America, Africa, South Asia, SE Asia, China and throughout central and eastern Europe. Post university I worked as a volunteer English teacher in Kenya which was a wonderful experience.

About the teacher’s accommodation

My home is a five bedroom house with a pleasant garden where you can relax and have barbecues in the summer months.

About the local area

I live in the village of Bookham in the south eastern county of Surrey. The village is located in beautiful countryside in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. My home situated next to a nature reserve, Bookham Common, yet is less than 10 minutes walk from the railway station.
There are frequent trains to the centre of London, so it is easy to visit the tourist attractions, monuments and shops in the capital. There are several historic houses and gardens in and around Bookham and many golf courses and leisure facilities.
You can join us when we play golf at the private Tyrrells Wood golf course and tennis at Horsley Sports Club. The area is also ideal for cycling, mountain biking and walks, and full of charming country pubs.
We regularly go for walks in the countryside on Saturday mornings or on summer evenings. We often go to the theatre, the cinema and to music concerts.
The university town of Guildford, with theatres and cinemas and good shopping, is 15km away, and Oxford, Hampton Court, Brighton and many other attractions are in easy reach. Leatherhead and Dorking are also charming small towns.
