Hi, I am Sonia and am an EFL/ESOL teacher. I have been teaching for about 25 years to people of all backgrounds and ages.
I am very enthusiastic and passionate about teaching English to people from different cultural and academic backgrounds. I enjoy visitors coming to stay, and like to make them feel welcome and part of the family. I live with my husband and daughter (plus her cat!). Anamaria – my daughter – readily engages in conversations and discussions with visitors, enhancing language learning. We live in a house in the Lea Valley in North East London, where the 2012 London Olympics were held. There is a short train ride to Central London with all its attractions.

About the teacher’s accommodation

Our house is in a semi-rural area in the Lea Valley on the edge of Epping Forest. The house itself is semi-detached with 4 bedrooms. The student’s room is on the second floor and has a private en-suite shower room. The room has views over the Lea valley reservoirs and towards central and North London. There is a secluded and peaceful garden at the rear of the house with a patio and various fruit trees and shrubs.

About the local area

We live adjacent to the Epping Forest which stretches for miles with lakes, golf courses, bridle paths, etc. In nearby Waltham Abbey the Abbey itself is the resting place of the last Saxon King, Harold. Waltham Abbey also boasts an artificial white water canoeing and sailing centre built especially for the 2012 Olympics. Sailing and windsurfing take place on nearby reservoirs.
The Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge, built by Henry VIII in the XVI Century is also a free museum, and is situated next to the Epping Forest Visitors Centre. Nearby Chingford train station provides easy transport to Central London with its myriad of tourist sites. Station Road has a wide variety of restaurants, cafés and gift shops. Gilwell Park is the International Headquarters of the Scouts Association and plays host to scout gatherings called “jamborees” from all over the world.
