About
Sarah P

Hello, my name is Sarah and I live with my husband in a small town in Kent about 15 miles from the centre of London. I am a native English-speaker and a CELTA-qualified English teacher. I have experience as a foster-carer, looking after teenaged refugees and teaching them English. My husband and I enjoy politics, cinema and cycling in the local countryside. We love sharing our home with people from overseas and can offer a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Family information

I live with my husband, Brian, who works as a librarian for a firm of barristers in London.  He loves reading about Roman history. My sister, Claire, her husband, Neil and their son live by the sea in Southend, Essex. It is about a 45-minute drive to their home. My mum and dad (70s) live nearby in a small cottage with a 4 acre garden in a very beautiful part of the English countryside. They have a swimming pool in their garden and enjoy walks and gardening. Brian’s family and my brothers live in Wales, next to the sea, and we visit them regularly. I have a passion for teaching functional, every-day English and helping students understand the culture of the UK.  We enjoy going to the cinema, eating out, cycling in the local countryside, swimming and spending time with family and friends. You are more than welcome to join us! We follow British and international politics closely and are interested in learning about other cultures.

About the teacher’s accommodation

Our home is a 3-bedroomed semi-detached house in a very quiet road. It consists of a hall, front living room, modern fitted kitchen/dining room, bathroom with shower, two double bedrooms and an office/study.  The guest bedroom has a double bed and overlooks the back garden. The shared bathroom is directly next to the bedroom. The windows are double-glazed and there is central heating in each room and a wood-burning stove in the living room. The house has a front garden and a 60-foot back garden. Swanley town centre is a 10 minute walk away and it takes 15 minutes to walk to the local railway station.

About the local area

We live in a small town on the border of Kent and Greater London, within easy reach of central London. There are a number of historic buildings within a 20-30 minute drive from our home, for example Chartwell (Winston Churchill’s former home), Hever Castle, Leeds Castle and Knole House. Swanley has a leisure centre with a swimming pool, diving pool, gym, squash courts and sports hall. There is also a large park with a boating lake, paddling pool, cafe and miniature railway, which hosts regular events such as concerts and firework displays. Bluewater shopping centre is a 15-minute drive away and contains a large number of shops, restaurants and cinemas. If you enjoy motor racing, Brands Hatch race course is just up the road!
