Family information

I live with my husband, Chris, who is a church leader. We have been happily married for 21 years. Previously Chris worked as an IT project manager for big companies, but he now works for the church. Our house is called a “Rectory” because Chris is the “Rector” of our church. We have two daughters (1998 and 2001) . They enjoy playing the guitar and ukulele, listening to music, art, animals and games. We have lots of friends through our church and our guests enjoy meeting them. We have two guinea pigs and four hens in our garden. I love music and singing in our band at church most Sundays. My other hobbies are reading, country walks, watching movies, visiting pubs and cafes, and spending time with friends. My friends enjoy meeting our guest students who are learning English. I enjoy taking our guests to visit the pretty English villages near our home, beautiful National Trust houses and gardens, or Cambridge and London. I like the international street food in London and Cambridge, and I hope you might too!

About the teacher’s accommodation

Our home is detached with four bedrooms upstairs and a guest bedroom downstairs for you. The 4m x 5m guest bedroom faces south onto the garden and is very sunny. It has a desk big enough for two, double and single beds/sofa beds, a wardrobe, shelves, books, a comfortable chair, and a piano. There is a door into the garden, where you can relax in one of our hammocks under the apple trees. Next to the guest bedroom there is a large toilet room with wash basin (shared). Upstairs there is a family bathroom with bath and shower (shared).

About the local area

We live in the town of Bishop’s Stortford, which is an old English market town. Around the town there is beautiful, rolling countryside with pretty thatched cottages in the surrounding villages. We live across the road from a shopping centre with supermarket, pharmacy, take-aways, pub and a café. At the end of our road there is a park for pleasant walks. It’s a safe and easy walk into the centre of town through the park, or to the train station. This takes about 25 minutes. In the centre of Bishop’s Stortford there is a sports centre with two swimming pools, a running trail and a gym. There are also shops, pubs, cafes, a cinema and a street market on some days. Nearby we can arrange horse riding.
