Teacher introduction
Hello! My daughter and I are very much looking forward to welcoming you into our home in Witney, a small town near Oxford. We live in the centre of town, close to shops and cafes. I used to live in Spain, where I taught English. I have also lived in France and South America, so I understand very well what it is like to go and stay in a foreign country.
Teacher home details
The student bedroom is large, with a double bed, a desk for private study and a television. There is a shared bathroom. Downstairs is an open plan kitchen-diner with a teaching area and a separate living room which we use mainly in the evenings. There is a large garden with a comfortable seating area and a trampoline. The town centre is a five minute walk with shops, parks, leisure centre, library and cinema.
Teacher qualifications text
I have been a languages teacher for over 20 years, and am experienced in teaching children, teenagers and adults. I teach English, French and Spanish. I have a PGCE and have taught in Secondary schools in England. I also have a TESOL qualification and used to teach private lessons in Spain.
Teacher about the local area
Witney is a pretty Cotswold market town with lots of shops and cafes. There is a leisure centre with a swimming pool, a cinema and several parks. Nearby there is pony-riding, where my daughter goes for lessons. Half an hour away is Cotswold Wildlife Park where there are lots of animals, and other pretty Cotswold villages which we could visit. Blenheim Palace in Woodstock is also nearby. Witney is half an hour from Oxford, a famous historic university city. There are several museums, such as the Ashmolean or Pitt Rivers. You can go punting on the river, or on a boat trip. There are lots of shops in the new Westgate Shopping Centre and also an ice rink.
Teacher family
I live with my daughter (2010) who loves animals, drawing and reading. We have two young cats and two guinea pigs. We see our neighbours a lot when we are outside in the summer. Most of them have children who often come round to play. My mum lives nearby and comes to see us regularly.
Teacher how to get here by public
The closest mainline train stations are Long Hanborough or Oxford. It is easiest to pick you up from Long Hanborough, which is on the same train line as Oxford. From London Heathrow and London Gatwick there are direct buses to Thornhill Park and Ride, Oxford. I can pick you up from there. The journey is roughly 90 minutes.
Teacher hobbies and interests
I enjoy cooking and always cook home-made meals. My daughter and I enjoy making cakes and pancakes together and would invite you to join in. We have a lovely garden with lots of flowers so you could help with the gardening if you would like to. There is also a big trampoline! In the evening we like to play games or watch films. We have lots of board games and cards. We enjoy going walking in the countryside and to the woods so we can do that if you would like to. We also like drawing, painting, arts and crafts.
