About
Samantha J

I am a teacher, specialising in teaching English as a second language. Over the years, I have taught students, of all ages and from many different countries. I live in Shottery, few minutes drive from the centre of the market town of Stratford upon Avon, here in The Midlands. I became a teacher, predominantly, as I enjoy meeting people from difference countries and am always interested to learn about their lives and what they do back home in their countries. This interest stems from having lived in France for many years and today, I have a special place in my heart for France as I love the language, the music, the people and the country. In my life, I have travelled vastly, including living in Australia and Canada. I particularly like Thailand and Malaysia and am fascinated with the Asiatic culture and customs.

 Family information

My family consists of my husband and our children (2007 and 2008) who are extremely active and regularly enjoy out-of-school activities including Tae Kwon Do, football, tennis, drama and swimming. Our extended family come and visit us regularly and live a short drive away. As a family, we are energetic and get involved in our thriving community and outside school social activities. We participate, in a wide variety of leisure pursuits, including sporting and music events in our local area.

We thoroughly enjoy having students to stay and welcome students into our home and treat everyone as, one of the family, during their time with us in beautiful Stratford upon Avon.

Here, in Stratford upon Avon, I am involved at our local hospice, The Shakespeare Hospice, and I am a fundraiser and committee member. Additionally, I am a volunteer driver and I work in the patient area.

About the teacher’s accommodation

Shottery village has an all-girls secondary school and one small primary school that has been open since the mid-19th century. There is one pub, The Bell Inn, and also a good Italian cuisine restaurant, Santa Lucia, opposite the pub. There is a large, local park, Shottery Fields, which contains two football pitches and a children’s play area; a footpath leads from the fields directly into the town centre. Shottery was the childhood home of Anne Hathaway, William Shakespeare’s wife, and is the location of the building, known as Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, which is a very popular tourist destination.
