South England

Pauline M

Hello and welcome to my profile page. I became an English teacher because I enjoy talking to people of all ages and nationalities and helping them to learn about the English language and culture. I also enjoy having people to stay and so working as a home stay teacher is an ideal job for me. I am originally from Ireland but I have made my home in England for over 30 years and my husband is English. Because we had hosted students a few years ago and I enjoyed it so much I decided to retrain as an English Language Teacher.

Family information

I live with my husband Ian. He is a retired doctor who worked in the UK National Health Service for over 25 years as a Consultant Anaesthetist. His favourite pastime is taking long walks in the countryside. He also loves to cook, bake bread, read (especially history books) and go to the cinema. He is currently learning Italian. We have a daughter who lives in London and who is training to be a lawyer. Ian has another daughter, two sons and 5 grandchildren. I especially enjoy travelling and visiting historical sights. I love to play tennis. I try to play twice a week. I also enjoy going for long walks in the countryside with my husband. I too love to read (especially historical fiction and thrillers) and go to the cinema. I enjoy cooking for special occasions and when entertaining family and friends. We also have a dog.

About the teacher’s accommodation

We live in a detached house close to the town centre. We have 4 rooms that students can choose from. Three rooms have double beds and each one has it’s own shower room. One room has two single beds. We have quite a big garden at the back which has a decking area with seating. There is also a separate patio area. We have a driveway in front.

About the local area

Eastbourne is a small resort town on the southeast coast of England, 60 miles south of London. The seafront is very pretty with a pier and a long beach. The town has a small shopping centre, lots of restaurants and cafes, a library, theatres, cinemas, swimming pools, sports clubs, and a railway station. Eastbourne is a short car/bus journey from Beachy Head and the South Downs National Park which are very popular with visitors. The nearest big city is Brighton which is 40 minutes away by train. Other towns close by which are worth visiting are Lewes, Battle and Hastings. London with all it’s attractions is 90 minutes away by train.
