Welcome to Dublin, Ireland!
We are a family living in Dalkey, Co Dublin a heritage town beside the sea and 30 minutes to Dublin city centre by train. There are six of us in our family – myself Moyna, my husband Ken and  our four teenagers. We all love sports and play tennis, golf, rugby and hockey! We would love you to come and learn English with us in our interactive family. We are lucky enough to live in a beautiful part of Dublin We have many  famous people living near by including Bono from U2 and Enya. The Obamas visited Dalkey and had lunch here on  their visit to Ireland in 2011.

Academic information

I am a Speech and Language Therapist so I am well used to teaching English grammar and speech pronunciation to students. I have been teaching for 20 years and our family has hosted children, teenagers and adults who are learning English, since 2009.

Family information

In our family there is myself and my husband Ken.  We are both 50. We have four teenagers – a boy (1998), another boy (1999), a girl (2001) and a boy (2003).Both grand mothers live nearby and you will have the opportunity to meet them. Our house is always busy which makes it an interesting and interactive environment for any student. We  all love sports in our family and we are members of a tennis club and of two golf clubs so you will have the opportunity to play golf, tennis and football if you would like. We like walking and there are beautiful walks in our neighbourhood as we live beside the sea. We also have a piano in our house if you like to play music.

About the teacher’s accommodation

Our home is located beside the sea in Dalkey, Co Dublin. Your room has a balcony with sea views!!
Our house has five bedrooms two sitting rooms and a small garden. Dalkey town centre is a 5 minute walk away. Bulloch harbour where you can see the local seals is also nearby – another 5 minute walk. You can get a great idea of our neighbourhood on the website.

About the local area

We live in a town called Dalkey, on the outskirts of Dublin City centre. We travel there by direct train (30 mins) or by car. The train station is a 7 minute walk from our house. We are very lucky to live right beside the sea and your bedroom has direct sea views. You can swim in the sea if you like! We also have a few local indoor swimming pools if you like. Our town centre is a 5 minute walk from our house and there is a great library there as well as lovely shops. It has a lovely, welcoming atmosphere. We also have our tennis club and golf club nearby. We live near a school and we sometimes use their facilities to kick our football.

Excursions you can take with your teacher

Visit to Dublin City Centre and Trinity College – Walking tour of Dublin city centre and sights including Trinity College, followed by a picnic in our famous Stephen Green gardens (which Central Park in New York was then modelled on!).

Glendalough – Glendalugh is a monastic heritage site approximatly one hour away by car. It is the location where the Obama’s choose to visit with their daughters on their trip to Irleand

Walk around Bray Head – Bray head walk is a costal path overlooking the sea which goes between two towns. It takes 11/2 – 2 hours and we usually have a treat when we reach our destination and then we can get the train back in the opposite direction. The views are stunning!!

Walk down Dun Laoghaire Pier – Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin has two long piers over over 1km that stretch out into the Irish sea. On the return journey you are looking back towards the skyline while surrounded by the yachts berthed in Dun Laoghaire Harbour.

Visit to Dublin’s key museums – This is a walking tour of Dublins key museums covering archeology, paintings and history. It is a great way of understanding Irelands culture…and an excellent way to practise your listening and speaking skills as you will hear a lot of information!
