About
Melinda W

I am Mrs Melinda Whittaker, and I welcome students from all over the world. I am enthusiastic about teaching and have twelve years of experience working in language schools and colleges.

The location where I live is perfect for a student who would like to learn and relax at the same time. I live in Burnley, which is a beautiful town in a green belt, north of Manchester. If you come to Burnley, you can get to know the English countryside as well as city life when we visit Manchester.

 Family information

I live with my husband. He is a businessman and spends a lot of time at the computer. He likes going to the park, cooking and watching films. His parents live nearby in Southport, whom the student might meet. We also have a small kitten in the house that is very cute and playful. My favourite hobbies are playing the piano and singing. I also like sports such as swimming, running and cycling. I regularly go to the leisure centre, where there is a health suite and a gym.

My other hobby is cooking: I like watching cooking programs and trying new recipes from all over the world. We love Italian and Indian cuisine. We also like watching films at home and sometimes going to the cinema, too.

The student is welcome to join in with me for any of these activities, and we can visit the local market and a pub as well.

About the teacher’s accommodation

Our spacious four bedroom end terraced home is in the green belt of Burnley, in the north-west of England. The house comprises an entrance to the hallway.

Two open archways provide access to an open planned living space, which includes the lounge, the kitchen, and the dining space.

On the first floor, there is a landing hallway providing access to a luxury bathroom suite, and four bedrooms, one of which with an en-suite shower room. This room with a double bed, chest of drawers, the en-suite shower will be the student’s bedroom. In case two students visit our home, we can provide another bedroom with a sofa bed, which opens up into a spacious single bed.

About the local area

There are several beautiful parks within walking distance from my home. There is a lake in Thomson Park, which is open for rowing during the holidays, and it has a mini-golf course too. It is really nice to go for a walk; there are lots of animals such as squirrels, ducks and swans.

We can visit the parks, a pub and the local leisure centre for a couple of hours and we can visit the city of Manchester as a full-day activity. There are different types of restaurants, museums and a famous football stadium in Manchester.

There is a new train line between Manchester city centre and Burnley; it takes about forty-five minutes to get there. On the journey you can see real English countryside with sheep, goats, horses, lakes and hills.
