Teacher introduction
We hope to welcome you to our home, here in Leytonstone, East London. I have travelled and lived in other countries myself when I was younger so I know how it feels to learn a language away from home. We will make you feel welcome from the start, introducing you to the family and showing you the local area. For your lessons, you will have a kind and considerate teacher who wants you to learn through interesting activities. Outside lessons, you will have a family helping you to enjoy and learn about London and its culture. Visits to London’s main sights will be included in your stay and we can adapt your plan to include any particular interests that you have.
Teacher home details
We live in a four-bedroomed traditional Victorian house. You will have your own bright bed-room upstairs. We have two bathrooms, one has a shower and the other one has a bath. Both of these are shared. Downstairs is our living room, where we all sit to relax, play games or watch television. We have an open kitchen-diner. You will have a separate room downstairs for your studies. We have a very quiet back garden where you can sit to read and relax. We have wifi connection in all rooms.
Teacher qualifications
I am a qualified teacher with nine years’ teaching experience and have taught English to students of different ages in France and Germany. I enjoy getting to know each student, to adapt the lessons to suit their individual needs and interests.
Teacher about the local area
Leytonstone is in East London. It has local shops where you can find most things that you need. It also has lovely cafes and restaurants. Ten minutes away is the Olympic Park where the 2012 London Olympics were held. You can take part in different sporting activities here including cycling and swimming. Also there is a large cinema and shopping mall. Leytonstone is a very friendly and welcoming area of London with lots of young families. There are lots of local parks with plenty of things for children to do, including football and tennis. Leytonstone is on the edge of Epping Forest, a large forest where you can go for country walks. There is also a local lake where you can go rowing.
Teacher family
We are a family of four. Mark (50s) works as a Business Analyst in Central London. We have two daughters, Millie (1999) who is studying at Oxford University and our other daughter (2002) is studying her A levels in Biology, Chemistry and Maths. Although our daughters are older and have their own interests, we still enjoying spending time together in the evenings and exploring London together at weekends. We are used to providing food for different tastes and diets, including gluten-free, vegetarian, halal and vegan.
Teacher how to get here by public
Leytonstone is ideal for travelling to and from Central London. It takes about 30 minutes to get to Leytonstone on the underground (the Tube) using the Central Line from Central London. The house is about a five minute walk from the station. You can get to our house by public transport from all major airports and stations. We will happily provide precise directions once we know how you will be arriving in London.
Teacher hobbies and interests
Even though we have lived in London for a long time, we still enjoy exploring the city. We visit different museums and art galleries. Mark supports our local football team and enjoys going to watch local matches. We all enjoy different activities to keep fit, including walking, swimming, climbing, yoga and going to the gym. As a family we go to watch films at the cinema. As a student in our home, you would be welcome to join in any activities that interest you.
