Katie B

I am a teacher of English language. Before I became a home stay teacher, I taught English and drama in secondary schools for many years.  I can help young learners get the most of their lessons and fulfil their potential. I enjoy planning interesting lessons using a variety of materials and stimuli. I like showing my students around the local area and making them feel part of the family.

 Family information

I am married to Adam. Adam is a company director. He is a very keen cook and generally cooks the evening meal. Like me, he enjoys dancing (modern jive and lindyhop). We have two young sons (born 2005 and 2006, respectively) who both attend a local school. The eldest son likes IT, reading and gaming whilst the youngest son likes making models, climbing and singing. Both boys are members of the boy scout movement. I am very interested in amateur dramatics, both as an actor and as a director. When I have time I like to go to the theatre and cinema locally and in London. I enjoy reading and I am familiar with the classics of English literature. I love dancing and my favourites are modern jive and lindyhop. I am a member of a pub quiz team which has appeared on television.

About the teacher’s accommodation

I live in a large, detached house with a garden. We have two dogs and I enjoy taking them for walks in the surrounding countryside.

About the local area

I live in Hawkhurst, a small town situated south east of London, in the county of Kent. The centre of the town is a short walk from my house. The town offers many facilities, including a digital cinema, a library, restaurants, shops and tearooms. Sporting facilities available range from a swimming pool and leisure centre to tennis courts, a golf course and riding schools. Hawkhurst is situated very near the beautiful Bedgebury Forest and National Pinetum where is it is possible to walk and cycle. The beach at Camber Sands is a nice excursion in summer whilst there are a number of spectacular medieval castles to visit such as Dover, Pevensey and Herstmonceux. The town of Hastings is worth exploring, with its old town, museums, modern art gallery and railway. Rye is another picturesque seaside town which attracts visitors to see the medieval buildings and little shops. London, with all its sights and attractions, is just one hour away by train.
