About
John S

I was born and have lived in London most of my life and so have a great knowledge and love of the city. I can introduce and guide you towards many of the great things you can discover in London in addition to some perhaps lesser-known and unusual delights the city has to offer. You will improve and develop your English language skills at our home in a vibrant part of London that is changing and developing as the city’s business, arts and entertainment communities expand eastwards.

 Family information

I’m the father of two grown-up children: my 25-year-old daughter now lives in Spain while my 17-year-old son divides his time between our house and his mother’s.

My interests include music, film and theatre as well as sports, especially football and cricket. I enjoy visiting modern art exhibitions and have a particular passion for the history of this area of London.

About the teacher’s accommodation

Our home is a typical terraced east London house built around 130 years ago. It’s quite spacious and our student’s room is located at the rear of the house with its own study area. We share the bathroom on the first floor and there is a second toilet on the ground floor. Our kitchen diner is the centre of our home while we also have rooms given over to watching TV and listening to music. There is a wonderful, large open space – Wanstead Flats – at the end of our street which is great for walking and even bird-watching.

About the local area

Forest Gate is in the part of east London that has been rejuvenated following the 2012 Olympics being held in nearby Stratford. So, we are just a 4-minute train ride from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – London’s newest open space with its unique parklands, waterways, venues and attractions – and the Westfield Stratford Shopping Centre. We are also extremely well-placed as a base to explore the rest of London and its historic, cultural and tourist sights. We even have the best Premiership football club in England – West Ham United – just a walk away.
