Hello. My family and I live in beautiful Yorkshire, within travelling distance of both of the county’s scenic National Parks, so our visitors may explore countryside and woodland along with historic cities and seaside towns and villages too. We look forward to hosting students from around the world and are sure that you will enjoy a comfortable and fun-filled stay with us. I am friendly, patient and practical. I like to find out about the interests and skills of my students, so that I may plan relevant activities that suit your preferred learning style, are motivating and fun and which help you on your way to achieving your potential!

Family information

I live with my husband Ian and my two teenage daughters. Ian is a Detective Inspector with West Yorkshire Police. My eldest daughter (2002) is an Explorer Scout and enjoys walking and playing football. She and my husband both support Huddersfield Town Football Club and often watch local matches together at weekends. My youngest daughter (2005) attends a local drama group and loves to spend time baking and trying out new recipes. My daughters both enjoy bike riding and playing tennis and we have bikes and rackets which you can use during your stay with us. We have a friendly rabbit called Toffee who lives out in our garden and always enjoys a cuddle. As a family we love visiting the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks and on an evening we enjoy watching a film together or entertaining family and friends who live nearby.

About the teacher’s accommodation

Our home is a lovely 5-bedroom detached property situated on a quiet side street in the village of Meltham. The house is beautifully decorated and benefits from wifi throughout. Downstairs there is an open-plan kitchen-dining room and a large, cosy lounge with a piano. Upstairs there is a spacious family bathroom shared only by my daughters and a study, along with three large double bedrooms and one bright and welcoming single guest room with plenty of storage for personal belongings. We have a large, private back garden with grass and patio areas, ideal for relaxing.

About the local area
The semi-rural village of Meltham sits on the outskirts of Holmfirth at the foot of the Pennine Hills, between the cities of Leeds and Manchester in the north of England. It is within travelling distance of both the Dales and North York Moors National Parks and so is an ideal base to explore woodland, countryside and coast. The area surrounding our home is made up of fields and wild moorland, on which local walks and picnics can be enjoyed. There are parks, tennis courts, football fields, a swimming pool, an ice-cream parlour and a sports centre. Also available nearby are venues for horse riding and climbing.
