Hello, our names are Simon and Jayne and we would like to welcome you to stay at our lovely house near the sea. We are both teachers and also artists and do lots of drawing and painting and creative things so our lessons are always fun! Our house has a lovely garden and is 5 minutes walk from the seaside with a beautiful nature reserve and really nice beaches. The centre of the town of Herne Bay is a short walk away which has lots of fun things to do and the historic city of Canterbury is only 7 miles away with its famous cathedral, theatre and fantastic shopping.

Academic information

We both are teachers and have taught students of different ages, nationalities and ability levels. Jayne has a BA Hons degree and QTS and a specialist EAL teacher. Simon has an MA, RSA TEFL and QTS and has taught English to students both in Spain and the UK.

Family information

We live with our son (2000) who likes music and art and our daughter who is in her 20’s and a keen musician and loves sport. We both have parents, brothers, sisters, nephews, neices living nearby so there are plenty of opportunities for family picnics in the countryside and barbeques on the beach and cycling in the nearby beautiful woods of Blean. We enjoy cycling, swimming, badminton and table tennis. We like visiting museums, country houses, gardens and art galleries and also attending local cultural festivals such as the Canterbury and Whitstable Festivals. We also love drawing, painting. All students are very welcome to join in with any of these activities.

About the teacher’s accommodation

We live in a lovely detached house in a quiet street with a large secluded pretty garden.  The sea is 5 minutes walk away with large meadow banks running down to the sea.  The accommodation available is a lovely room with two single beds with a window facing the pretty back garden.  There is also a private bathroom with shower.

 

About the local area

We live in the seaside town of Herne Bay which has a sports centre, indoor swimming pool with gym and also watersports facilities.  The nearby town of Whitstable also has windsurfing, paddle boarding and kite sailing.  Horse riding is available in the nearby woodland countryside. Herne Bay has a lovely park with tennis courts and a large pond for model boating.  There is a fantastic cycle route through the woods to Canterbury on the site of the oldest commercial railway line in the world called the Crab and Winkle Line.  Herne Bay also has a pier with seaside amusements and has many exciting events such as Sci Fi by the Sea, The Zombie Crawl, Airshows and Firework displays. The Cathedral City of Canterbury has a famous new theatre staging London shows and nearby Margate has the famous Turner Art Gallery.

Visit to Cathedral City of Canterbury – A visit to Canterbury including a visit to the famous Cathedral.  After lunch a sight seeing boat tour on the river Stour.

Visit to Wingham Wildlife Park – Visit to the park to see Flamingos, Penguins, Tigers, etc. with picnic in the grounds.
