About
James B

Hi I am James and I am married to Tracey who is a nurse. We have two children, Daisy and Florence. Daisy lives with her boyfriend in Whitstable and Florence is at university but stays with us during the holiday periods.

I am a TEFL tutor and also coach/mentor UK students across a variety of academic subjects helping them to prepare and be successful at exams.

We live by the sea, just five miles from Canterbury in Whitstable with shops, a leisure centre, a theatre and a railway station offering easy access to London.

We live in a five-bedroom house which has a good sized garden with our little dog, Lola. Visitors have their own bedroom and bathroom.

We enjoy welcoming visitors to our very friendly home and helping them to learn English language skills whilst visiting local sites and becoming more familiar with the British culture.

 Family information

Tracey’s parents who are in their 70’s live in an annexe to the main house. They love Whitstable and walking along by the sea. They also enjoy the shops being so close and use the excellent bus transport from outside of the house to visit Canterbury.

Daisy (1991) and Florence (1996) and Tracey and I have lots of friends who live within easy walking distance of the house. The local school is very close and we are certainly never lonely here!

Both Tracey and I are keen on most sports. We are both runners and play lots of tennis. There are courts close to the house. There are wonderful coastal walks from the front door which Lola (our dog) loves!
We frequently visit the cinema and the theatre and regularly take trips into Canterbury where there is a magnificent cathedral and a fabulous assortment of shops.
We love to invite our visitors to join in with whatever we all plan to do and there is always something different going on to enjoy.

About the teacher’s accommodation

Our home is 100 metres from the sea and an equal distance to the local shops. The village of Tankerton is very friendly and has a good variety of shops. Tankerton is smaller than Whitstable and right on our door step.

We have two single bedrooms which share their own bathroom so are ideal for two friends who want to stay together.

The house has a very large lounge area and a big kitchen-diner so is plenty of room for everyone. The garden surrounds all of the house and is a mixture of lawn and flowerbeds.

There is a large garage which is ideal for storage and driveway enabling plenty of parking.

About the local area

The area is full of things to do with many being largely inexpensive. In summer there is wonderful sea swimming whilst in the other seasons there is an excellent indoor pool and bowling centre just 0.5km away.

We have bicycles that visitors are welcome to borrow and there are some great local cycle paths including the Crab and Winkle way into Canterbury.

There are day excursions available to some wonderful castles and stately homes. And, the mainline train station is 0.5km away and goes directly to London. Buses go to all of the local supermarkets and to all of the local towns and villages across East Kent.
