South England

Jacqui B

I am a teacher of English as a foreign language and I also teach Legal English. I very much enjoy teaching students of all ages and from different cultures. I speak French and love travelling with my family to other countries.
Before I started teaching, I worked as a solicitor for many years in the private sector and for a legal charity in London. I live with my husband and teenage daughter in Tunbridge Wells with our two cats; I have an older daughter at University in Liverpool and a son who is at University in Berlin.  Tunbridge Wells is a lovely Spa town, which is half way between London and Brighton.

Family information

I live with my husband Laurence, who is in his fifties. He is an electrical engineer by profession and works in the Health Service. He loves riding his motor bike and is a good cyclist and runner.  He is musical and plays the guitar. We do have a piano but it is only played now when my son comes home for a visit. My daughter (1998) is in her final year at school and is studying French and Spanish and English. She loves speaking French and Spanish and hopes to go to university next year to study these subjects. She loves ballet and debating and baking cakes for us all to eat! I love animals and nature and being outdoors, preferably in the countryside. I enjoy running and have now done the Tunbridge Wells half marathon twice. I also do yoga and pilates. I enjoy walks with the family in the countryside and love to go to the sea and walk along the cliffs. I like to go to London and walk along the Thames and visit the art galleries and on special occasions go to the theatre. I love to visit historical places and learn about the history and I enjoy taking visitors with me!

About the teacher’s accommodation

We live in a five bedroomed semi detached house on the outskirts of Tunbridge Wells. The train station is 15 minutes on foot and the town a 30 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride. We have bicycles we can lend you. There are small supermarkets within walking distance and several churches. We have 2 single rooms available for students, one upstairs with the family shared bathroom and one downstairs, with a private bathroom (except the washing machine is in that bathroom). Each room has a desk or you are welcome to use the dining room table for study. We have a large dining room/kitchen and a lounge (with TV) downstairs.

About the local area

We live near to the centre of Tunbridge Wells and are 15 minutes from the station and 10 minutes from the bus stop. We are a 10 minute walk from the Sports Centre, where there is a large swimming pool and gym and tennis and squash courts. There is a large shopping centre and cinema in Tunbridge Wells; the town has everything you need but is not too large and is surrounded by lovely villages and countryside.
Tunbridge Wells is a historic town, dating from the 1600’s. The historic area is called the Pantiles, which is my favourite part of the town, with lots of lovely cafes.  The town was honoured with the title ” Royal” in 1909, due to its popularity amongst the royal family.
