About
Irene M

I am an English language teacher. I am very hospitable and find home stay teaching great fun and very rewarding. I was an actress for many years and appeared on television, stage and film. I have also been a drama teacher and run courses amongst different types of people such as senior citizens, coal miners and ethnic minorities. I find my previous career in the acting profession very useful when I am helping students develop their conversational skills and feel at ease.

About the teacher’s accommodation

I live in a charming village called Iford, less than two kms from the little market town of Lewes in the county of East Sussex. My home is a three bedroom, semi detached cottage with a garden.

About the local area

Iford is located amidst beautiful countryside which you can enjoy on foot or on a bicycle. The village has no facilities so it is not a place for you if you are after a busy night life! There are many pretty old farm workers cottages and the people are an interesting and eclectic mix who you will find very friendly. Lewes is a seven minute car journey or you can take the bus which passes every hour and takes 10 minutes. Lewes is a very attractive town. There are many shops and nice teashops and restaurants as well as a leisure centre. There are regular markets which are held in the old market place and you can explore the medieval castle. My home is a 10 minute drive from the coast where you walk along the beach or sunbathe in the summer months. The nearest city is Brighton which is 15 minutes by car or a short train journey. Brighton is a lively city and a great cultural centre. It has a museum, art galleries, theatres, cinemas and offers an amazing range of eating places.
