 Family information

My husband John and I live in the house alone (apart from a shy cat) and our adult son and daughter live nearby. Our son Tom is a well known games designer and writer and lives in Bath and our daughter Anna is an environmentalist and lives 40 minutes away. We see our granddaughter Rosa every week. They are very happy to meet and talk with our students. Many of our friends in our street have interesting jobs and are happy to meet students. I love to explore the area with students and to have adventures! We have a small camper van so it is possible to visit places and make our own meals and drinks in the van. I like to share my love of English history and I also enjoy learning from others. I am interested in how people learn and also in the leadership and management of businesses.

About the teacher’s accommodation

We have an old house built in the 1800s and typically English. We have a very large garden where there is a table tennis table, archery and badminton. We have a snooker room and you are welcome to play the game or use the keyboard if you are musical. I have a teaching area upstairs and your bedroom will have an ensuite bathroom, wifi and plenty of space to work. The house is in a quiet street of other interesting old houses and a church. It is easy to walk into town.

About the local area

Shaftesbury is an interesting small town with lots of cafes, pubs, art galleries and some shops. You can walk there in 8 minutes from the house! For those who like big shopping centres and big cities, we are an easy train journey from Salisbury with its wonderful cathedral, Bath and its Roman history, or Bristol with its port. I can drive you to the seaside in under an hour where you can swim, surf or visit seafront towns such as Bournemouth or Poole. We can go to London for the day but it is expensive. We have beautiful countryside all around for walking and three beautiful historic houses nearby owned by the National Trust.
