Teacher introduction

My name is Chloë and I live with my husband and son in the beautiful coastal town of Folkestone. I have been teaching English for 9 years and have a lot of experience in teaching all levels from beginner to advanced, as well as exam courses including IELTS, FCE, CAE and TOEFL. I will create a course for your individual needs l love teaching and I also love hosting people. I want you to feel at home in our home and have the best possible experience of learning English in the UK.
Teacher home details
We are ideally located 10 minutes walk from the station, 10 minutes walk from the town centre and the high street, and 10 minutes from the harbour and the beach. We live in a terraced Edwardian House, with 3 floors. We have a front and back garden. The main living area is very light and airy. The student bedrooms are on the first floor (the same floor as the bathroom). The bathroom is shared.
Teacher qualifications
I hold a Trinity TESOL Certificate (passed with a distinction), and have started a part time Cambridge DELTA course (I have completed the first module of three). Before I trained to teach English, I did a BA (hons) in History of Art and Fine Art Practice (and passed with a 1st).
Teacher about the local area
Folkestone is a wonderful town, with a fantastic old high street, where you can find independent shops, cafes, galleries and boutiques. It also has a stunning coastline, from which you can see France, and a brilliant Harbour Arm, where you can see live music every weekend in the summer. There are also outdoor film screenings and a range of good restaurants and food stalls. There is a vibrant arts scene in Folkestone, and as it holds a triennial here, you can find artworks by famous artists situated around the town. There are several great parks, which are fantastic for walking or running in, and we are surrounded by countryside, with hills which you can see from the centre. It is 53 minutes on the train to London, and 30 minutes on the bus to Canterbury.
Teacher family
My husband and I are in our mid 30’s and have a young son. We are also expecting our second child in February 2020. We both have a background in the arts, and education. My husband works for a university in London, where he is a project co-ordinator, and also tutors and mentors students. He is almost always home by just after 6pm, when we eat dinner together (usually with our toddler too). Our son is a lovely natured little boy, and loves spending time with people. He will either be in with his grandparents or in childcare during the mornings, when I would teach the focused English lessons, and then he would probably join us on afternoon excursions and activities. We also have a lodger, who works at the Folkestone rowing club. He is also in his early 30s and really friendly, but not around a lot because he works long hours.
Teacher how to get here by public
Description of how to get here by public transport, including nearest rail and bus stations
Folkestone Central Train station – 10 minutes’ walk to our house. I would be happy to meet you at the station. Gatwick is 1hour 15 minutes by taxi. If you come on the Eurotunnel, Folkestone is 15 minutes from Ashford, 35 minutes from Ebbsfleet International, and 54 minutes from London St Pancras International. Dover Ferry Port is less than 30 minutes by taxi.
Teacher hobbies and interests
Alongside art, my husband and I love walking, cycling, visiting galleries and museums, and watching films (particularly indie films and world cinema). Before we moved to Folkestone last year, we both lived in London for 10 years, and regularly go back to see exhibitions and shows. We also love gardening and growing vegetables, and we are passionate about cooking. We would love you to join us for any of these activities.
