Cheryl H

My name is Cheryl. I live in sunny Kent, the garden of England, with my partner Barrie, and Ruben our son. I’ve been helping students to improve their English for a few years and absolutely love it. Each student is very different, and not just in their ability level. I strive to understand each person carefully, in order to identify the best route to facilitate their learning. I do this not only with methods (interactive puzzles and games, computer work, cooking and activities) but also with topics, often providing lessons tailored to their interests, motivations, feelings. I am consultative in approach and enjoy asking the students how they feel it is going and listening to their viewpoints.

Family information

Barrie and I have been together for 26 years. We’re both in our early 40s and we have one son, Ruben (2008). We live on a very sociable road and we have lots of friends who have children of all ages and they have lots of pets! Barrie likes cycling and drumming, music and cooking, films and art. Ruben likes swimming, cycling, Lego, watching films and (sometimes!) playing computer games. I love socialising with family and friends, music, reading, gardening, cooking, running, cycling and travel. I would invite our students to become involved in all of these activities and Barrie and Ruben would do the same with theirs. For example, Barrie has given students drum lessons in the past and I have cooked and baked with nearly all of them!

About the teacher’s accommodation

We live in a four bedroom detached house with a good sized garden. The student’s room is warm and cosy and has a very comfortable double bed with lots of pillows and extra duvets if they need them. The view from the window is of the garden. There is a wardrobe, desk, bedside tables, dressing table with mirror. In the home we have a guitar, piano and an electronic drum kit. The centre of the town is 10 minutes walk away. There we have many lovely shops and facilities. The house is within 10 minutes walk of two lovely parks and a 5 minute drive of a park with a lake for pedalos, sail boats and kayaks. 10 mins drive away is a cinema and bowling alley and another shopping centre.
