I am an English Language Teacher that enjoys helping students to improve their English. I like to give lessons that suit the level, needs and interests of individual students, and that encourage students to practise their English in real life situations. I live in an exciting part of London that has very good transport connections to the centre of the city. Croydon is a place in the south of London that has a thriving arts and music scene, and we are lucky to be on a quiet street that is also very close to the centre. Here you will find numerous shops, one of the oldest markets in England and a wide range of galleries and cafes. I look forward to showing my students both some of the famous attractions in the centre of London and some of the very interesting places in the local area.

Family information

I live with my wife Lydia and our 23 year old daughter Dasha, who is in the last year of her Engineering degree course at university. My wife is also a qualified teacher, both of English and of Russian and currently teaches Russian at UCL university, London. She has been very busy recently in sorting out the interior design of our newly renovated house and she enjoys art, music and cooking. Our daughter is very lively, enjoying singing and dancing, and is also a member of a local running group. Although we have lived in Croydon for less than two years, we all agree it is a far more exciting place to live, than our previous home, which was situated outside London. When we have time we all enjoy watching movies, listening to music and visiting art galleries. I am a keen environmentalist and am involved both in a community group that is trying to improve our local park and in a charity, named Rainforest Saver that helps poor farmers in rainforest regions to farm in a way that brings them better harvests and helps protect the rainforest. As I am also into art, I am currently trying to get a project off the ground that would create a Rainforest Art Installation in an area of Central Croydon. I also love gardening and playing tennis and I am a member of a local tennis club. My other interests include football, poetry, storytelling, politics, literature and journalism.

About the teacher’s accommodation

We live in a 3 bedroom semi detached house on a quiet street, that is 10 minutes walk away from Central Croydon and the main station for central London. You will have your own room and access to a luxury bathroom, containing a bath or a downstairs wet room, containing a shower. We have an attractive garden, underfloor heating and full access to Wifi. The house is over 100 years old and has some fine traditional features but has recently been refurbished to provide for all the necessities of a family living in the 21st century.

About the local area

Croydon is a fascinating place with plenty to see and do. As well as being only 15 minutes away from Victoria station in Central London, and so easy to reach all the famous attractions, it also has a lively and exciting character of its own. If you are interested in art a number of new galleries have opened in recent years, and if you like music there are many locations where you can go to listen to bands. There are also many leisure centres nearby, where you can go swimming, play badminton or just use the gym. Croydon also has a number of table tennis tables dotted around town, that are completely free to play on. It has also just opened Croydon Boxpark , where it is possible to sample foods from many different countries in the world, as well as a wide variety of British beers.
