Teacher introduction
My name is Cathy and I am a teacher of over 20 years experience. My family and I would love to welcome you to our home and to help you further with your studies of the English language. We live just outside Manchester in a warm, friendly home, only a twenty minute journey from Manchester airport. There are many interesting activities to do and places to visit nearby, such as; Manchester city centre and shops, the United and City football stadiums, the beautiful Peak District national park as well National Trust and English heritage stately homes and castles. My husband and I have two children, aged ten and six, and so we completely understand the importance of a student’s well-being whilst under our care. We will ensure that anyone who stays with us has a thoroughly enjoyable experience whilst they improve their language skills.
Teacher home details
We have a comfortable, warm and welcoming four-bedroom family home. We have a private bedroom for our student which has a single bed, chest of drawers and shelf. The bathroom is just outside the bedroom and can be private if needed. Our kitchen is open plan and we all have breakfast, chat and cook together here. We use the dining room for our evening meal and next to it is a little snug where our student can study and also relax and watch tv. We have a family living room where we play board games, read or watch the tv together. Our garden has plenty of space to lounge around or have a bbq in the Summer.
Teacher qualifications text
My teaching career began after I completed my degree at Oxford University. I always knew I wanted to work with young people. I gained my PGCE from Nottingham University and then taught in a variety of schools in the UK and Australia. I also gained an MA in Education from London Southbank University.
Teacher about the local area
We live in Romiley, a suburb of Stockport, which is just outside Manchester. We have the best of both worlds on our doorstep; one direction leads into the city, the other direction to the countryside. In Romiley itself we have lots of cafes, restaurants and local shops as well as a swimming pool and gym. We can catch a train into Manchester for shopping, museums and eating out or drive to the Trafford Centre, a shopping mall with restaurants, cinema, bowling, crazy golf, trampolining and indoor skiing. Both the Manchester United and City football stadiums and tours are only 20 minutes away. Stockport offers an old Victorian marketplace with food stalls every Friday. We can also drive into the countryside and visit Lyme Park, famous for filming ‘Pride and Prejudice’ (1995), or Quarry Bank Mill, a working museum of a 19th century factory, or explore the ruins of Peveril and Beeston Castles.
Teacher family
Our family includes myself, Cathy, a 40-something mum and teacher, as well as dad, Steve, who is a 50-something Australian nurse and works in Occupational Health. We have one son (born 2008) who loves football and playing computer games. Our daughter (born 2011) enjoys dancing and doing craft activities. They are friendly, funny and kind. My mum, known as gran, lives a couple of minutes walk away and often pops in to see the kids and have a cup of tea now that she is retired. We don’t have any pets. We do have lovely friends in the area who we have met though having children at the same school.

Teacher how to get here by public

Our nearest airport is Manchester and we would be happy to meet our student at the airport and either drive them home or catch the train back.
Teacher hobbies and interests
Our family very much enjoys travelling and we try to visit Australia as often as we can to see family over there. At home we enjoy going for long walks in the countryside during the day and to the cinema in the evening. We enjoy visiting National Trust and English Heritage properties as we are interested in history. We love to go out for meals, but also cook and eat together at home every day. We swim and play football every week and also practice the piano and cornet. Our student would be most welcome to join in any or all of these activities too!
