About
Barbara T

I am a teacher of English language. In my experience, learning English in the home of your teacher is a very effective way to rapidly improve your language skills. I am a very patient and understanding teacher and I really enjoy seeing my students grow in confidence. Before I became a home stay teacher, I taught English to children with dyslexia and worked with adults to improve their literacy.

About the teacher’s accommodation

We live in a four bedroom bungalow. One of these rooms is separate from the rest of the accommodation and we use it as an office/bedroom/bathroom. Another bedroom is used for storage. The guest bedroom is a twin room and students’ have exclusive use of a bathroom. The bungalow was built in the 1970s and is open plan but quite spacious. There is a lovely garden with a lawn, flowers, shrubs and fruit and vegetables

About the local area

There is a bus stop just down the drive and buses go to Redhill and Reigate. Caterham station is about two miles away. Things I like to do with students include baking cakes and going to the nearby town and shopping centre of Croydon. Surrey has many stately homes (e.g.: Polesden Lacey, Clandon Park and Hampton Court Place) and picturesque gardens (e.g.: Hatchlands park, Savill Garden and Loseley Park) to visit.  There are some architecturally attractive towns and villages to explore that have good shopping and restaurants such as Guildford, Reigate and Dorking. If you like the outdoors, you can go cycling, walking, play golf, go to the races or use the local swimming pools. Although we live in the countryside, we are very near London so it is easy for students to explore the sights and attractions of the capital.
