About
Anna-Karin H

I am originally from Holland and my first language is Dutch which gives me a unique insight into learning English as a foreign language.
I have been married to a Scotsman for 22 years and slowly have been teaching him the Queens English.
As a Primary School, Montessori and CELTA teacher I have taught for many years, having lived and worked on four different continents.
My children are now in and through university which allows me to dedicate my time to my students in a comfortable, cosy and safe home environment located in the picturesque South Downs, an area of outstanding natural beauty with easy access to London for sightseeing and numerous Royal Colleges of Art, and Portsmouth with the Historic dockyard, which all students enjoy thoroughly.

Academic information

I have been teaching for more than 20 years in Holland, Oman, Singapore, Venezuela and England. Not only in class situations, but I have also worked one to one with children who needed extra help.
For the last two years I have been a host mother for several teenagers who stayed with me over the summer holidays.

 Family information

During the holidays our son (1996) returns from University and helps ‘entertaining’ the guests. His passion is football, but he will play any sport if you show an interest. Our daughter (1994), who qualified for University last year, is now travelling the world and will be back in September 2016. She loves baking, shopping and all girly activities and is very happy to assist in all these.
We are fortunate to have numerous first class golf courses nearby where knocking a ball around with some students have been lots of fun.

I love playing the piano (I’m not very good, but really enjoy it) and encourage students to take their own music. My other hobbies are swimming and cooking. Over the years I’ve had a lot of fun cooking different national and international dishes with my own children and my guests and trying out recipes from our famous national baking program ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
As a family we love to go to Queen Elizabeth Country Park to go kite flying.

About the teacher’s accommodation

We live in a detached house with a big garden. Our house is in walking distance from the station, the village and a big supermarket.
The bedroom has a king size bed and ample cupboard space. You will have your own private bathroom. When my children are not at home, we also have a single room with an en-suite and a room with a queen size bed with the private bathroom.

About the local area

Liphook is a large, 600 year old village in the county of Hampshire. Liphook is located between Portsmouth and Guildford and is about an hour train journey from London. The trains go hourly to the different cities and the in between lying towns and villages.
There are a lot of castles, cathedrals and historic monuments in the South of England which are mostly at a reasonable driving distance.
We also have the hawk conservancy where you can learn some basic handling skills and have an insight into the work of the Hawk Conservancy Trust.
There are many sport facilities in the area; golf courses, open air swimming pools, lakes or rivers to go rowing, horseback riding, tennis facilities, spa’s and leisure centres with ten-pin bowling, swimming pools and gyms.
These activities can all be organised, but obviously some do come at a cost.
