Anna B

Hello! My name is Anna. I am 46 and live in a village called Church Stretton, in Shropshire. I have worked all my life in education, both as a teacher and as a manager of education projects. I have taught students of all ages from 4 upwards and have lived all over the world – Poland, Vietnam, Mozambique! Now I am settled in the UK, I look forward to welcoming students from all over the world to my home. I hope that by spending time with me and my family, you can improve your English and also find time to enjoy the beautiful countryside around my home.

 Family information

I am married to Michael, who is a doctor and works at Shrewsbury hospital. I have two children. My son (2004) enjoys playing his guitar and geocaching (a type of treasure hunting he can share with you). My daughter (2006) loves to dance. We also have two cats – Pippa and Pixel.

I love making the most of the beautiful countryside – walking, cycling or just looking at the view. I play badminton regularly. As a family we enjoy days out, visiting castles and historic houses, adventure playgrounds, walks and picnics.

About the teacher’s accommodation

This is a very large house. We have two double bedrooms, each with an en-suite shower/toilet. The larger of the two also has an adjoining children’s room which would suit a parent and child sharing. There is plenty of space downstairs for studying (and relaxing!) We have a large garden with swings, climbing frame and trampoline for younger (or older!) visitors.
The view from the house looks over Carding Mill Valley and Caradoc Hill. There are many walks available. There are shops in the village (5 minutes walk) including some nice boutiques and antique shops. There are regular buses and trains to Shrewsbury and Ludlow.

About the local area

We live in an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) in the Shropshire hills. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside – many people come here on holiday to enjoy the mountains. From the house you can walk to Carding Mill valley, climb up to a waterfall and enjoy the view from the top of the Long Mynd: on a clear day you can see fifty miles in all directions.
There are interesting historic towns nearby –Shrewsbury and Ludlow are both about 15 minutes drive and are very picturesque with tudor buildings and riverside walks. Ludlow is famous for its castle, and for its cuisine: there are many fantastic restaurants and a food festival in September. There are also numerous castles and historic houses easy to visit, for example Attingham Park, Stokesay Castle and Powys Castle.
