Suzanne is an experienced and qualified teacher who specialises in intensive one-to-one teacher's homestay courses. Suzanne took early retirement after a successful career in teaching at secondary school. Suzanne taught various subjects including Home Economics (which includes cooking skills) to students of various ages. Suzanne has several years experience of teaching English as a Foreign Language and encorporates a variety of activities and materials into her lessons. Suzanne is able teach General English with and without Culture, for Young and Senior Learners and Homestay courses.
Suzanne lives with her husband Peter in the village of Aylburton, near Lydney, in the Forest of Dean. Her home is comfortable and spacious with a large garden at the rear in which they grow fruit and vegetables. They have fantastic views over the River Severn and also have an orchard with a wide variety of fruit trees. Suzanne uses much of the garden produce in her own cooking. Suzanne's husband Peter is a retired English Teacher who also helps with the lessons.
The student's room in Suzanne's house is well-furnished and comfortable and provides a place where students can have privacy and quiet whenever they need it.
Suzanne has a wide range of interests from arts and crafts to antiques. Suzanne practises willow basket making, bobbin lace work, and organises a local book reading group. Her hobbies also include history, antiques and collecting porcelain.
Suzanne has two cats.
Suzanne's students follow a specially designed one-to-one homestay English course which focuses on the language areas which are most important to them, such as speaking and listening, writing, grammar, the language of business English, and so on. By working intensively on these target areas, students make rapid progress in their English language learning during their stay.
A Homelingua course is also much more than just a language course: it is a total immersion course. In addition to receiving intensive one-to-one tuition, students are integrated into the daily life of Suzanne and her family, including, for instance, sharing family meals, visiting friends, shopping or participating in various outings. This exposure to natural, everyday English is a unique feature of the Homelingua experience and students often find that it dramatically improves both their language skills and their confidence in communicating in English. It also offers a warm and in-depth experience of the British way of life.
