Jill is a retired Primary school teacher (teaching 4-11) and took her qualifications in teaching English as a foreign language several years ago. Since retiring from full time school teaching, Jill has taught English in language schools in Oxford, London and has also taught in Germany.
Jill enjoys a wide variety of interests including reading, theatre, cycling, walking, cinema and dance. Jill has travelled to many countries with her husband and enjoys learing about and experiencing new cultures. Jill's husband Colin enjoys music and plays the organ. They have a baby grand piano in their home. Colin is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable gardener and helps out with a well known private garden in the village of Brill.
Jill lives in a comfortable detached home with a large garden and great views over the surrounding countryside.
The students room is comfortably furnished and there is a personal study space for students to concentrate on self-study and homework.
Jill has one cat.
Jill prepares an individual one-to-one course for each student, which focuses on practising the language areas they are most keen to develop. Whether students want to improve their speaking, listening, reading or writing skills, or to concentrate on business English, general conversation skills or cultural discussions, Jillprovides a series of intensive lessons which will maximise progress in those areas in the time available.
The Homelingua experience also offers much more than an intensive one-to-one language course. It embodies the belief that total immersion in the language is the ideal way for a student to develop their skills. Living in Jill's home and sharing daily activities such as meals, shopping, trips to Oxford, meeting friends and so on, students are exposed to the everyday English which occurs naturally in a range of typical situations. The result is often a dramatic improvement in students' confidence and their ability to communicate by the end of the course.
Message from the Tutor
My husband and I have lived in the village of Brill for many years, and enjoy the friendly community atmosphere of the place. I have retired from full-time teaching and enjoy the personal contact of hosting and teaching students in our home.
Brill is a lovely place to stay and ideally located to enjoy excursions to Oxford and London, but also to enjoy an experience of very typical English life and culture in the village.
My husband is a keen musician and plays the organ and piano, he also enjoys gardens and gardening. We have a grown up son who is now a nurse in London.
We look forward to welcoming you into our home in Brill.
