Your teacher

Gareth worked for the British Tourist Authority promoting Britain overseas for 34 years and his job included teaching marketing to employees. Philippa has a variety of experience from working in advertising and for the Heath Authority to setting up an English school for Japanese students.

They recently returned from living in Tokyo for 18 months so are familiar with Japanese customs and way of life. Upon their return, Gareth trained to teach English as a foreign language. Philippa has also worked as a home tuition teacher and they are both able to teach Business and well as General English courses.

There is an allotment close to their house where they enjoy growing vegetables. Philippa likes to cook, read and go to the theatre and Gareth enjoys being a football referee at weekends.

Your Teacher's home

Gareth and Philippa live in a five-bedroomed terraced house in Kew, Surrey. There are two student rooms with double beds, desks and wardrobe space. There is a pretty rear garden, large kitchen and lounge. Philippa is vegetarian but eats fish. If the student wishes meat can be prepared on the barbecue outside.

About the location

Kew is a pretty village in Surrey. It is very convenient for central London but is also the home of Kew Gardens which is a popular tourist attraction. There are a number of pleasant pubs, restaurants and shops nearby. Students can also choose to take a boat cruise down the River Thames. Richmond is accessible by bus for shopping and countryside walking in Richmond Park where there are many deer.

Nearest train station

Kew Gardens or Kew Bridge Railway Station. South Ealing is also fine to pick student up.
