PGCE Supply teachers to teach at home

  • Do you hold a PGCE, TEFL or equivalent qualification?

  • Do you want to teach but not travel?

  • Does teaching at home sound appealing?

  • Can you offer accommodation to a student in your home?

Homelingua specialises in providing language training courses on which the student lives and studies in the home of the teacher. Our organisation is accredited by the British Council and has been established for over 15 years.

We are looking for teachers in most areas of the UK who can offer accommodation and one-to-one language training to a student in their own home.

The student lives in your home as a guest and shares meals with you and your family. The teaching should usually take place during weekday mornings for our shorter courses. Longer courses will continue into the afternoons. You will also need to provide a couple of local excursions or activities for the student each week, and to welcome and integrate the student into your day-to-day life as much as possible.

Homelingua provides full support to the teacher before your student arrives and advises on suitable learning material. We are available at all times whilst the student is with you for further advice and support if required.

Our students are of many different nationalities, age 11-70 and join courses for 1-4 weeks in duration.

Home teaching is suitable for people who have taken early retirement or who are looking for a second income working from home. However, the work is seasonal and cannot provide a full-time income.

Remuneration to the teacher ranges from £365.00 to £495.00 per week with supplements for teachers in the London area. This fee includes accommodation, 1-1 tuition programme, all meals at home and a brief report on progress and course content.

To summarise, you will need to:

  • be patient and sociable
  • have a suitable qualification in teaching English as a second language
  • be able to  provide comfortable accommodation to the student in your home
  • provide home-cooked meals
  • be available to teach in the mornings
  • be computer literate
  • be prepared to integrate the student into your day to day life
  • have suitable child care arrangements if you have young children at home. Most of our students would not consider staying with a teacher with children under the age of 3 years.

More about working with Homelingua

  • Homelingua provides intensive English language and culture programmes for overseas visitors to Britain. Most of our students come from Europe or Japan.
  • On our courses the student stays in your home and has a programme of one-to-one language tuition and joins in family life for the duration of the course.
  • Home tuition is flexible and rewarding and suitable for many people looking for satisfying part-time work.
  • Homelingua has arranged high quality ‘home tuition’ and ‘homestay’ programmes since 1994 and has a network of home teachers across the UK.
  • Our busiest periods are May to September. Most students stay for one to three weeks.
  • Home teaching is as much a lifestyle as it is a job. It requires the involvement and co-operation of all members of the family. It brings great rewards and friendships but requires patience and enthusiasm.
