About our teachers

About our teachers

Can I choose my teacher?

No, you cannot choose your own teacher. After receiving your application we will use our experience and judgment to select the most appropriate teacher for you. You can refuse our selection of teacher if you think the selection is not appropriate. You can browse a selection of our teachers online.

What kind of person teaches on a Homelingua home tuition course?

Many of our teachers have come to teaching English after a previous career and are aged between 40 - 65. Some teachers may have taught subjects in mainstream schools, others will have come from completely different careers. This means that many of our teachers are able to bring a great wealth of experience and knowledge to their teaching. Except in exceptional circumstances, all teachers will have taken at least a CELTA qualification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language before joining the Homelingua team. We have teachers who are experienced in exam preparation, especially in CAE, IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC and BEC.

What do I do if I don't get on with my teacher?

In the very rare case where a student does not get on with the teacher, we will discreetly move the student to another teacher. This happens very rarely, and should not happen if we have full information about your interests, language requirements and study objectives.

Why can't I choose my own teacher?

After analysing your study objectives and personal preferences, we will use our experience, judgement and knowledge of our teachers to select the most appropriate teacher for your course. You can browse a small selection of our teachers online, but these profiles only give a glimpse of each teacher. Our teachers may also have a preference as to the type of student they host and teach due to their personal interests and teaching experience.

Locations

Can I choose the location where I stay?

On the application form we ask you to choose three locations. We will try to place you in your first choice of location but cannot guarantee to do so.

Other questions

Can I participate on a Homelingua course by myself?

Yes, Homelingua is a course designed for individual participation. Most students join by themselves, although some students choose to study with a friend.

Is a Homelingua home tuition course more expensive than a language school?

Home tuition is cheaper than taking a one-to-one course at most language schools. The course fee includes your tuition fee, accommodation and all meals with your home tutor. Home tuition is more expensive than a group language course, on which you will usually be studying with between 10-14 other students.
